1888 Born October 16th at the Barrett House in New York City.

1895 Enters St. Aloysius Academy for Boys, Bronx, New York.

1900 Enters De La Salle Institute, New York City as a day student. Family moves from the Pink House to the current Monte Cristo Cottage.

1902 Enters Betts Academy, Stamford, Connecticut.

1906-1907 Attends Princeton University.

1909 Marries Kathleen Jenkins. Goes prospecting for gold in Honduras.

1910 Eugene Gladstone O誰eill Jr. born. Becomes assistant stage manager of James O誰eill痴 road company痴 production of The White Sister. Summer - sails from Boston on the Norwegian barque, CHARLES RACINE, for Buenos Aires. Upon landing he leaves the ship, has various menial jobs, and ultimately lives on the waterfront.

1911 Spring - returns to New York City aboard the S. S. IKALA a tramp steamer (trip inspired many of the ideas for the GLENCAIRN plays). Summer & fall -ships as an Ordinary Seaman on S. S. NEW YORK to England and returns on S. S. PHILADELPHIA as an Able Bodied Seaman.

1912 Returns to the Monte Cristo Cottage in New London and begins working for the New London Telegraph. Divorced from Kathleen Jenkins O誰eill in October. Enters Gaylord Farm, a tuberculosis sanatorium on December 25th and stays for six months.

1913-1914 Continues convalescence in New London. Writes Ile and 2 full-length plays.

1914 James O誰eill pays for the publication of Thirst, a volume of 5 one act plays. Fall - attends George Pierce Baker痴 workshop in playwriting at Harvard.

1915 Returns to New London for part of the summer.

1916 Summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Provincetown Players produce his plays: Bound East for Cardiff, Thirst, Before Breakfast.

1917 In New York City the Playwrights Theater produces his plays: Fog, Bound East for Cardiff, The Sniper, Before Breakfast, Ile, The Long Voyage Home.

1918 In Greenwich Village O誰eill meets Agnes Boulton. They move to Provincetown on Cape Cod and are married on April 12. They live in a converted Coast Guard Station at Peaked Hill Bars, which James O誰eill purchased for the couple.

1919 Son, Shane Rudraighe is born.

1920 Beyond the Horizon produced on Broadway and awarded Pulitzer Prize. James O誰eill dies and is buried in Saint Mary痴 Cemetery in New London. The Emperor Jones produced.

1921 Gold, The Straw, and Anna Christie produced in New York. Anna Christie awarded Pulitzer Prize.

1922 Mary Ella Quinlan O誰eill, O誰eill痴 mother, dies in California and is buried in Saint Mary痴 Cemetery, New London. The First Man and The Hairy Ape produced.

1923 James (Jamie) O誰eill Jr. dies and is buried in New London.

1924 Welded, All Gods Chillun Got Wings, The Ancient Mariner, Desire Under the Elms produced.

1925 Eugene and Agnes O誰eill move to Bermuda. Daughter Oona born. The Fountain produced.

1926 The Great God Brown produced. Eugene and Agnes purchase home in Bermuda.

1928 Lazarus Laughed, Marco Millions, and Strange Interlude produced. Strange Interlude awarded Pulitzer Prize. Eugene and Agnes are divorced.

1929 Dynamo produced. O誰eill marries Carlotta Monterey in Paris. They lease Chateau du Plessis for their home.

1931 The O誰eills return to the United States. Mourning Becomes Electra produced.

1933 Ah, Wilderness! produced.

1934 Days Without End produced.

1936 Awarded Nobel Prize for Literature.

1937-1943 Eugene and Carlotta move to Danville, California and live at Tao House. Long Day痴 Journey Into Night is written at Tao House.

1943 Oona O誰eill marries Charlie Chaplin.

1945 The O誰eills return to live in New York City.

1946 The Iceman Cometh produced.

1947 A Moon for the Misbegotten produced.

1948 Eugene and Carlotta move to Boston and buy a cottage on Marblehead Neck overlooking the ocean.

1950 Eugene O誰eill Jr. commits suicide.

1951 Eugene and Carlotta move to the Shelton Hotel in Boston.

1953 Eugene Gladstone O誰eill dies November 27th. Buried in Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston.

1956 Long Day痴 Journey Into Night produced. Awarded Pulitzer Prize.

1958 Touch of the Poet produced.

1964 Hughie produced.
